The Sustainable Colombia Fund, managed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), seeks to mobilize international and public resources to support processes and programs that promote environmental sustainability, contribute to biodiversity conservation and strengthen the competencies of local communities.

To this end, in 2019 the Sustainable Colombia Fund approved Fondo Acción’s proposal to support the consolidation of nine projects that comprise the REDD+ Community Portfolio in the Biogeographic Chocó. Its investments enabled the REDD+ projects to successfully complete their verification process before international standards such as the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Alliance. In addition, its commitment drove the strengthening of community governance, productive development, monitoring, reporting and verification processes.

The REDD+ project is committed to the conservation of forests and their biodiversity. We strengthen sustainable and profitable non-timber productive activities that improve the quality of life of communities; we govern the territory and its resources as a community while preserving the culture; and we generate income through forest conservation.

The REDD+ Community Portfolio comprises nine REDD+ projects from nineteen Afro-Colombian Community Councils and one Indigenous Senior Council in the Colombian Biogeographic Chocó.
